Rifleman James McIntosh

James McIntosh grew up in Headingley, where his parents owned the Riverview Hotel. He attended the local Phoenix School. He landed on D-Day with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, the Little Black Devils. The next day the Germans counterattacked and during a fierce battle he was badly wounded and captured. He was executed by order of General Kurt Meyer, while a prisoner with 2 dozen other badly wounded men, because this general couldn’t be bothered to feed or guard them.
