Flight Sergeant Stuart C. MacLennan

Uncle Stuart grew up in Winnipeg’s West End. He had just turned 18 when he enlisted in the RCAF as a mechanic. After completing basic training he was shipped over to England and assigned to the famous 76th Bomber Squadron of the Royal Air Force, where he became a tail gunner on a Wellington heavy bomber. Barely 10 weeks into his time with the squadron, they were sent on a bombing mission into Germany to try to take the war to th enemy. During the attack their plane was hit and ended up crashing into a field near Rosemont, Holland. Uncle Stuart and 4 other crew members were killed in the crash. Two other crew members who survived became prisoners of War. Uncle Stuart was only 19.
