Trooper Denis R. Henrie

Trooper Denis Henrie enlisted in the Winnipeg Grenadiers, at Winnipeg on Apr. 23rd, 1941. He joined the Fort Garry Horse on active duty on august 12th that year and was posted to c Squadron at Camp Borden, ON.

In November the Fort Garry Horse moved to England. While in England Denis completed training in gunnery, riding a motorcycle and driving trucks. He completed his training by qualifying as a Motorcycle Dispatch Rider. He landed in France on July 4th, 1944. He was fortunate to be in the same squadron as his brother, so they were able to spend some time together.

He returned to civilian life in Sept. 1945, returning home to Winnipeg. He was honoured to attend both the 40th and 50th D Day Celebrations.
