Lieutenant James Fenton

James Fenton was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 4th, 1913. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navel Volunteer Reserve April 28, 1943 to October 3, 1945 where he served as a Sub-Lieutenant and later as a Lieutenant. He began his service at H.M.C.S Chippawa on May 24, 1943 to June 1, 1943. Next he Served at H.M.C.S Cornwallis from June 2, 1943 to July 5, 1943. He served most of his time at H.M.C.S Bytown from July 6, 1943 to September 6, 1945. He then returned to serve at H.M.C.S Chippawa from September 7, 1945 to October 3, 1945 at which time he was discharged.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He spent Summers at Victoria Beach with his family, enjoyed golfing at the St. Charles Country Club and curling at the Winnipeg Winter Club. He was a big football and hockey fan. He devoted his entire career to the telephone industry where he retired as Manager, Operations and Engineering as well as Assistant General Manager of the Manitoba Telephone System. James was kind, patient and loyal. He was dearly loved by his family and friends. James passed away at the Grace Hospital on May 22, 1991.
