Major Donald William (Bill) Brown

Major Brown Joined the RCAF as an Aircraftsman Second Class in 1955, He served in the RCAF and Air Reserves for 38 years until retirement in 1993. He received Basic Training in St Jean, QC and Trades training as a clerk Accountant in Aylmer, ON. His first posting was Tactical Air Command in Edmonton where he met his love and future wife Dorothy Stewin. In 1957 he was posted to 1(F) Wing Marville, France. He returned to Canada and Married his sweetheart 1 Aug 1959. Together they were posted to North Bay, ON. Ramore, ON, Alsask, SK and Cold Lake, AB. He received his commission in April, 1970. His first posting as an Officer was to Transport Command HQ in Trenton, ON, In 1974 he was posted to Northern Region HQ in Yellowknife as Staff Officer Logistics. Moved to CFB Winnipeg in 1978 and served as Canex Officer, Comptroller Prairie Militia Area and Base Accounting Services Officer. In 1988 he transferred to the Air Reserves as Air Reserve Group Comptroller until his retirement in 1993.


Bill was born in the small town of Strathroy, ON. Jun 14, 1937. Due to the death of his father, at age 16 he left high school to work in the local furniture factory. A year later he joined the RCAF. Married in 1959 Bill and Dorothy raised 3 beautiful daughters: Cathy Lynn Bekolay, Dave and sons Jason and Trevor; Cheryl Ann Busch, David and sons Curtis and Thomas; Bonnie Lee Agar, John sons Mitchell and Tanner, daughter Samantha. Bill was Married for 63 years until his beloved wife’s passing in Nov 2022.


Bill has been a member of the Legion for more than 50 years, primarily in the Charleswood Branch 100 since 1978. During this time he has served in Executive Positions of Treasurer, Chairman and 1st Vice President totalling more than 15 years.
