LAC Alexander Allen Bodykevich

Alexander was born to Ukrainian immigrants on July 21st, 1923. He was the 2nd eldest of three siblings. Born and raised in the North end of Winnipeg, Alexander attended numerous schools for his education as his family moved frequently.

At the age of 19 Alexander enlisted in the R.C. Signals (A.F.) Canadian Active Force in Toronto, ON. He served in Canada with the rank of Signalman. In 1942 he transferred to the RCAF, serving in both Canada and England until he was discharged in Dec. 1945. For his service he received: the Defense Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, with clasp, War Medal 1939–45, General Service Badge and RCAF Reserve Badge.

After returning he married a raised a family in Winnipeg’s North End. He was employed by the Canadian Postal Service for 32 years before retiring. Alexander was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 141 Ukrainian Veterans. Alexander pursued yet another calling. He became a Reverend Deacon of the Ukrainian Catholic Church, serving in various Manitoba parishes. Alexander passed away in 2007 at 83 years of age.
