Corporal Kenneth Jacob Blatz, CD

Corporal Ken Blatz was born in Homewood, Manitoba on March 15, 1935. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1955 as a clerk with the Department of Fisheries. During his time with the Navy, Ken took part in a sea deployment to Bermuda. On February 3, 1960, Ken enrolled in the Regular Force as an Air Force Photo Technician. One of the highlights of his career was his posting to Soest, Germany in 1967 with 4 CIBG, returning to Canada in 1970. Ken remained with CFB Winnipeg Photo Section for three years and released from the RCAF in 1973. Upon release, Ken, his wife Glenda and their four children (Mark, Kevin, Kristin and Ryan) moved to Neepawa, Manitoba where Ken opened up his own business, the Neepawa Photo Studio. In 1977, Ken and his family returned to Winnipeg where he began a new career with Purolator. At the age of 65, after 22 years of service with Purolator, Ken retired in the St. James Community in Winnipeg so that he could spend more time with his ever-growing family.
