Ian Andrew Aird

Royal Canadian Navy
1943–45 WWII

Ian was born in Winnipeg in 1925. He grew up in Winnipeg with his three sisters – Mary, Ailsa and Margaret. Sadly, Ian passed away at the early age of 42 years.

Ian enlisted in the navy in 1943 when he was just 18 years old and served until the end of World War 2.

After the war, Ian worked for Hignell Printing for 17 years and then later worked for Wallingford Press. Ian belonged to the Winnipeg House of Craftsman Printing.

Ian was married to Reta and has two sons – John and Garth. After his passing, Ian’s family has expanded to four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. One grandson continued the legacy of his grandfather of protecting Canada by working for the RCMP.

The world changes from year to year, our lives from day to day, but the love and memory of you, shall never pass away.

Ian & his sister Mary: Sometimes, Ian would bring some of his navy buddies home with him when on leave. One very lucky fellow ended up becoming his brother-in-law marrying Ian’s sister, Mary.
